What a fantastic first week of school we had! I am so proud of how well all of my new third graders picked up on their new routines and expectations. We covered a lot of ground last week and we will slowly be building in curriculum as the students become more comfortable navigating our classroom and the routines for each subject. Last week was spent mainly on community building and classroom routines. The kids voted on our classroom mascot....a zebra named Ziggy! We also learned how centers will work for math, reading, and writing. Another important thing that happened last week is that the students collaborated to develop the rules for our classroom based on four elements: respect for self, respect for teachers, respect for peers, and respect for environment. The kids learned about the consequences for breaking any of these rules as well as ways that they can earn rewards for positive behavior. The class earned their very first Fun Friday for earning tallies for positive behavior. This week, we will continue to practice some classroom routines as we start to add more curriculum into our day.
Thank you to everyone for donating supplies to our classroom! It is very much appreciated. Thank you also to those of you who filled out the third grade parent questionnaire that I sent home last week. I looked over all of them and it was nice to be able to learn more about the kids from the people who know them the best! Below are the responses to some of the questions that I saw:
Will I mainly use the website for communication?
No. If I need to communicate daily updates, it will be via email. I will be updating this page once a month from here on out with updates about curriculum and upcoming events in our classroom. I will, however, send out an email blast when this page has been updated so that you will know.
Why is there no Music class in the specialist rotation this year?
This year, the school will be bringing in an artist in residence every couple of weeks to teach a new concept related to the music and the arts. This will bring more of a variety into the weekly arts rotations. If you have further questions about this, contact Mrs Williams at [email protected] or Mrs. Bottomley at [email protected]
When will I find out about clubs and after school activities?
As new clubs begin, you will receive either an email from Mrs. Williams via Alma or a flyer will be sent home with information. I am unsure which specific clubs will be offered this year.
